ADJUSTABLE MAIN JET© INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Although installation of the adjustable main jet is simple, making the proper adjustments initially requires some experience in performance tuning. If you have little or no experience in this type of work, it is HIGHLY recommended that you get assistance from an experienced mechanic or shop.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW PROPER TUNING PROCEDURES WILL RESULT IN ENGINE FAILURE!
TOOLS REQUIRED:
Wrench for drain plug in bottom of carb.
Screwdriver for clamps around carb.
Socket to remove existing main jet.
IF YOUR ENGINE HAS MORE THAN 1 CARB, YOU WILL NEED A KIT FOR EACH ONE! DO NOT TRY TO USE THE ADJUSTABLE MAIN JET IN 1 CARB AND NOT THE OTHER.
1) Make sure that the fuel is turned off.
* NOTE: Although the adjustable main jet can be installed while the carburetor is on the engine, some applications may require removal of the carb.
2) Loosen the clamps at the front and rear of the carb. To enable turning or removal which ever you choose.
* NOTE: If you are not removing the carb from the engine, make certain that when you turn the carb to gain access to the bottom drain plug, you do not bend or damage the throttle cable at the top. If you damage the cable, you will have to replace it. A bent cable may cause the carb to stick resulting in injury or death to the rider.
3) Remove the large drain plug from the bottom of the carb as if you were going to replace the main jet.
4) Remove the existing main jet with a socket or special jet wrench.
* NOTE: It is VERY IMPORTANT that you do not use the existing main jet in your carb with the adjustable main jet system. We have supplied a special main jet that must be used with the adjustable main jet kit. Make certain that you use ONLY the one supplied.
5) Install the special main jet supplied in the kit. Make sure that it is tightened, but do not over tighten or damage will occur to the jet and the carb.
* NOTE: Make sure that the needle in the adjustable main jet is backed out far enough so that it is not pressed against the main jet when it is installed. If this happens, you will bend the needle and the adjustable main jet will not function properly.
6) Install the adjustable main jet body. Tighten enough to get a good seal, but again do not over tighten.
7) Replace the carb if removed and make certain that the clamps are tight that hold it in place.
8) Turn the adjustable main jet needle in until it just touches the main jet. Now back it out 2 - 3 turns, this will give you a starting point. From this point on, it is very important that you do not run the engine for any extended amount of time if it is running lean. If this occurs, STOP and turn the adjustable main jet out (counter clockwise) as if you were looking at the bottom of the carb.
Anytime you make adjustments, do not turn the needle more than ¼ a turn at a time. When you get close to that perfect setting, you may have to make even smaller adjustments.
Make certain that you have adjusted the carb properly before going out and running up your favorite hill or dragging you best friend. With proper adjustment, you will enjoy the ease in fine tuning your ATV or Motorcycle for where ever you ride. You will never have to stop and tear your carb apart again to replace your main jet; Just a simple turn of the needle is all it takes.
